CHURCH RECORDS & GENEALOGY

The St James records are not available on line or on disk, they only exist as hard copies.  They can be inspected in person but a fee may apply.  If you should ever wish to arrange this please e-mail us and we will send details of the person to contact.

NB
One of the confusing things that may arise in trying to trace "Sutton" details is that the borders of Sutton have moved over the years.  Sutton now is effectively separate to Macclesfield.  Once upon a time though, the area of Sutton covered part of what is now Macclesfield.

St James was built in 1840 in what was then Higher Sutton, but is now Sutton Lane Ends and is often referred to as just Sutton.   St James still exists as an active church.

St George's was one particular church that was in the "old" area of Sutton.  St Georges was in existence pre-1840 in what was then Lower Sutton.  What was Lower Sutton is now in Macclesfield.  St Georges may now be "de-commissioned" as a church.

As such, if your research indicates that an ancestor came from "Sutton" you may therefore need to look at the records of a different "Sutton" church.
